Mountain Goat Units:
G4 - This unit contains some of the best genetics for a large billy but it was over-hunted and is now rebuilding. The CPW has reduced licenses so it won't be long before this unit is once again one of the best in the state. Keep in touch with me as to the status of this unit. For now, it is lower on my list of favorites.
G6 - This unit is one of the roughest as far as terrain is concerned so physical conditioning is very important. Numbers are low and licenses have been reduced. Keep in touch about this unit. For now, it is lower on my list of favorites.
G7 - This is my top pick at this time. My hunters usually take the best billy harvested in this unit each year and horn size has averaged slightly over 9." The terrain is steep in places but access is good. Numbers of goats are good and license numbers are fairly low compared to many other units.
G15 - This unit is managed by CPW for low numbers and not for mature animals. Enough said.
G16 - This unit has very easy access to most areas which can make it a challenge to find a mature billy but there are always a few hiding that can be found. Due to the high elevation roads in this unit, it is a good unit for hunters that are older or less physically able.
Mountain goat hunts are scheduled for three hunting days plus a day or two of acclimation to high elevation. Most of the above units have seasons that open on Mondays so we locate a good billy over the weekend to pursue on Monday morning.
