This unit contains the best genetics for a large billy. Despite being over hunted for a while, the population of mountain goats in this unit has recovered. The Colorado Parks and Wildlife (CPW) has reduced the licenses so it is again one of the best in the state. A temporary request to hunt on Forest Service Lands must be submitted before you can confirm your hunt, but we have always been approved.

The rough terrain in this unit requires hunters to be in good physical condition to endure the harsh conditions. Numbers are low and licenses have been increased, so we suggest keeping in touch about this unit. For now, it is lower on our list of favorites.

This is currently our top pick. Our hunters usually take the best billy harvested in this unit each year, with horn sizes averaging slightly over 9″. The terrain is steep in places, but access is good. The number of goats is good and license numbers are fairly low compared to other units. This unit has good access through old mining roads that are open to ATVs. In some areas, these roads reach treeline, which can cut down the amount of hiking just a bit. If the snow gets too deep for four-wheelers, we have TRAX machines. We like the October hunts for the best trophy hair growth.

This unit has very easy access to most areas which can make it a challenge to find a mature billy but we can always locate a few that are hiding. Due to the high elevation roads, it is a good unit for hunters who are older or less physically able.
