These hunts take place on private ranches in GMUs 9, 191, and 20. These units consistently produce bucks scoring in the 160s and 170s with an occasional much larger buck. The hunters are taking one or two bucks each year over 180. The buck quality is not on par with our Eastern Plains deer hunts but these hunts are cheaper, more easily drawn, and hunters can buy a landowner voucher while they build up deer preference points to use later on the Eastern Plains. Landowner vouchers are readily available for just $500. These are great hunts to do while building points for the Plains hunts. These mule deer hunts are great for spouses and young hunters as well.
The hunts are guided with a ratio of two hunters per guide. The dates take advantage of the mule deer rut. The moderate terrain varies from 5500 feet to 8500 feet in elevation. Trucks and ATVs are used for transportation. Hunts in unit 20 include meals and lodging. Hunts in units 9/191 do not and therefore, will be priced $500 less. Meals and lodging are available nearby.
There are a couple of pictures of foothills bucks in the enclosed color pictures. If you would like to see more pictures, we can email you more of them. Just ask.
